Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez (born ) was a Colombian writer, journalist, and Nobel Prize laureate. Born in Aracataca, Magdalena, he is considered one of the most significant authors of the 20th century.

García Márquez won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982. His masterpiece Cien años de soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude) is one of the most important works in Latin American literature. He also wrote El amor en los tiempos del cólera (Love in the Time of Cholera).
